North Haven, Irish Festival
June, 2007

Experience

Repeatability

Did another 5k at the North Haven Irish Festival. Nice (very) flat and winding course beginning and ending at the fairgrounds. Weather was great - about 73 degrees and sunny. Improved a little (33:00)

O'Brien's Pub

Experience

Local pub and eatery in Allston/Brighton area. The food is OK, regular Irish fare, and the beers are reasonably priced. The pub is relatively spacious, with dark wood tables and benches. Kind of a 3rd date place. Location: O'Brien's Pub, 13 Harvard Ave., Allston, MA. Tel. 617-782-9082

EWR Newark Airport

Experience

Newark is a valid alternative to JFK or LaGuardia if going to NYC, but never pleasant. The biggest problem is the bus wait to get into the city from the airport; the lines can be long and if in winter, it's a COLD wait. From EWR into NYC, the most popular stop is at Port Authority on 42nd and 8th, however there are other destinations as well. See www.newarkairport for more info.

ORD Chicago O'Hare Airport

Experience

Repeatability

Under construction is the dominant theme. Getting from one terminal to another is a mix of buses and walking through scaffolding and drywall. It may have improved over the last year, but in my 3 times flying in, found it challenging as a connection stop, and vaguely unpleasant as a final destination/ check-in airport.

IAD Dulles Airport
2005

Experience

Repeatability

Dulles Airport is actually in Virginia and about 40 minutes from Washington. The biggest inconvenience is the driving distance, otherwise it is a clean, well-run facility. Keep in mind the airport is large so an hour+ connecting interval would be recommended. More information at www.metwashairports.com

Clinton

Experience

1st outing of the year. Went out of Clinton Harbor to Southwest reef - fishing for stripers using live eels. Beautiful day; sunny, seas < 1 foot and wind < 5 knots. Caught 2 decent sized bluefish and 1 25" striper (too small to keep). Lost a bunch of rigs though, lots of lobster pots in this area.

ran the 'Run for the Rock' 5k in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport 6/10. Nice route mostly along the water with 1 decent hill at the begining of the 3rd mile. Slight rain but nice and cool (9am start). Still slow - clocked ~33 mins this time (not sure of the exact time since there was no electronic timing of finish)

MSY New Orleans Aiport

Experience

Just being in New Orleans makes this middle-of-the-road airport a bit better. Dominant impression: construction goes pretty slow here. It's at least a half hour drive to town from MSY, and directions are fairly clear.
