SFO Airport
2006

Experience

Repeatability

Ugg, not a big fan of SFO - it does the job, but is never pleasant. BART will take you to the city, and access to your rental car is not too bad. It seems to me that SFO is best for big trips to Asia - I prefer Oakland for smaller trips to SF.

Bradley International Airport
2005

Experience

Repeatability

Not much to say about Bradley. If you live or need to go/stop over in Connecticut, it's fine, but it's a 1.5hr drive to Boston if you're considering it as an alternative. Providence is a better alternative to Logan than Hartford.

SLC Airport
2006

Experience

Repeatability

Salt Lake City is a nice smaller airport, like you might expect. The landing and takeoff are pretty if you have a window seat. Be prepared for it to be chilly if you step outside in the winter. The airport is relatively close to the city, although directions are not obvious.

John Wayne Airport
2006

Experience

Repeatability

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is not as good as you might think. Firstly, parking can be difficult. To park in the longer-term lot requires a ~10 min. bus ride from the other side of the 405 freeway to the terminal. The security gate line is also often long. On top of all this, the takeoff experience is intense as the local regulations require a 'steep ascent'. Unless you're close, not much benefit over LAX. One positive - the luggage pickup experience.

Highly recommend diving in Monterey! Lots of color on walls, starfish, anemones, good visibility. The descent into the initial trench was terrific. Note: rocky boat trip out to the site.

Dead fish on a line. Top of tower was terrific - like a tropical reef.

Lots of surge, but nice dive. Try to control buoyancy better in tight spaces with surge.

Casino Point, Catalina

Experience

Repeatability

The classic shore dive on Catalina. See freedraw for route. On turning right from entry looked for the wall but didn't find it, turned after a short while to explore the sunken raft surrounded by kelp.

Experience

Drift dive from 'Long Point' to 'Pirates Cove' off Catalina. Gentle slope in beginning (Pirates Cove) meandering between boulders and thick healthy kelp. Latter part of dive (Long Point) more sheer walls.
