First real solo dive. Nice day - low surf, no surge. Descended to 90 ft. (a little too quick - check depth gauge more frequently on descent). Stayed at depth very briefly, then long, slow ascent. Focused on navigation. - continue that! Good visibility today - felt confident solo. Saw large, sleeping halibut ~80ft (3'x1-1/2') - turned his eye toward me. Large sand dollar bed. Surfaced on target, a little north. |

Shore dive - my first in San Diego! Lounged top of canyon ~60 ft depth. Very enjoyable - no current/surge, good visibility ~25ft. Used steel tank - 24 lbs. too much. Saw: huge crab (~1 1/2 ft. wide - dead?), large sheephead (3) eating starfish spine, small flounder like fish in sand (camouflaged). |

28 lbs. too much. Try 24. Visibility poor ~ 10 ft., but nice dive anyway. Saw numerous lobster + caught one of them! Had to release because no permit. Kelp is very cool. Nice rock structures, overhangs, niches. Very good divebuddy. Good ascent. NOTE: 1) 24lbs. too much, 2) attach octopus higher on BC, 3) Light is great, 4) Buy standard table (non-metric). |

Hayes Street. Bought my first real piece of artwork! A $600 painting (probably should have tried to negotiate it down) from an artist named Carol Aust. Bought it from a store called Zonal and the store owner's name was Russell E. Pritchard. 568 Hayes Street. 415-255-9307. Zonalhayes@earthlink.com. Zonalhome.com. |
