From Roseau taxi drove us North to Portsmouth(2 hrs drive) and dropped us off at Cabrits Dive Center, now managed by sympathetic british couple. Wife is great, told us where to eat and to sleep. (not much choice around Portsmouth). Divecenter is 10 min. drive from water but they take care of everything.Nobody around just four of us on a small diveboat to two favorite sites :"Toucari Caves". Caves are located from 20 to 5ft.Once above caves you swim in our own bubbles. Second dive "Shark's Mouth" no sharks but some formations which ressemble sharks. Interesting fishlive. It's worth the trip.

Resort is big word for Comfort Castle. Simple, clean, food just OK, 20 min walk from town, facing the water. 15 rooms filled with divers. So lots of international folk. Dive center has everything you need. Friendly and professional. Dive sides max. 30 min. away. I have not been to other Caribbean islands but people tell me that here is the most varied and abundant fishlife. Easy diving, max depth 85'. I was in general very happy with the dives, great at Scott's Head. Boat circled around pods of dolphins. Island is famous for whales but we didn't see them. There are paid boat trips for them.

Dominica is not an easy island to get to especially if you're not from the East.(sleep over) The descent by plane over the peaks and forests is quite memorable. We went in May, few tourists and no fiestas. Few restaurants open outside hotel. Cars drive left so it's scary on the mountainous very narrow routes. We hiked to some waterfalls and lakes, not grand but good exercise- but they push guides on you hence expensive. It's not an easy island to visit. Diving is worth a return. Stay at the Fort Young Resort, in center if you are not diver; at Castle Comfort if you are one.
